Stop Bugging Me...

Or should they? Bugs are a very important part of our garden. This week we learned just how integral they are. We differentiated between the bugs that are beneficial for growth and the nasty ones that are detrimental to our precious plants.

Hmmmm, how to make this lesson hands-on, I wondered? I guess we will just have to dig up some of those soil dwellers! And that is exactly what we did... Hugs for all the bugs!

Kittens and Greens

There is a lot happening over at the Chaparral house garden. This week we collected Fava Greens for the residents to try out.

Who knew Favas produced such beautiful flowers?
Some very welcomed visitors decided to join us in our harvesting.

Color Me Happy

Last week our students went on wildly colorful scavenger hunt. Their job was to find plant material that matched every color on a given paint sample strip. It being winter and all, it was a big task to find vibrant colors around the garden. Of course our students were very successful.

Four different kinds of red in the middle of January? No problem. Very impressive...

Chain Gang

WHAT?! Nahhh, just a group of kids trying to figure out what it means to be part of the food chain.

Mark Me

Some helpful students marking our seedlings...

Peas help me grow

Our beautiful sweet peas are growing quite abundantly! With the help of some Sweet Briar students we made trellises to support our plants.
